What’s the Point of Estate Planning?

Posted By: Manish C. Bhatia

The purpose of estate planning is to make sure that your assets are protected during your life and pass as easily as possible to your loved ones after you are gone.

It should be easy–it’s your money, you should be allowed to do with it as you please–but when courts, banks, insurance companies and the IRS get involved, something as simple as a loved one paying a bill can get frustrating during an already difficult time.  With proper planning, the entire process can be simplified so that your assets will be there for you and your loved ones when necessary.

There are many false theories out there: all I need is a Will; Trusts are only for the wealthy; I can just have any lawyer do my estate planning; I do not need estate planning right now.  Talk to someone who has experience working with individuals and families to better understand how proper estate planning can benefit you and your loved ones.

The right estate planning attorney should discuss all of the costs and benefits of each document with you and explain how any possible scenario will play out and your planning options before you decide on the right estate plan for you.  If you have a question or simply want to learn more, please feel free to contact me by phone or e-mail at any time.  I am happy to help.
